But for younger bodies that are undergoing the growth process, weight training can mean something totally different and may be harmful.   1. Young children have very active growth plates at the base of all the bones and these bones increase in length because of these plates. It is sometimes thought that weight training stunt growth by affecting these plates somehow. Researches have revealed that weight lifting in some cases can stunt growth by promoting the production of such hormones in the body that can affect the working of growth plates that further stunt growth quite obviously. These hormones, when produced in a young growing body, can also produce many other side effects.

Although these two aspects have been supported by many researches and are enough for making us believe that the view about weight lifting being a cause of stunted growth of youngsters is true, there are still many evidences that affirm it to be a false assumption in many ways.

 

The possible reasons for stunted growth are sedative lifestyle and increased level of inactivity that can disturb many of the body mechanisms. This situation can be effectively avoided if a more active and healthy way of living is adopted and workout is made a basic part of our daily routine. The most recent researches even say that weight training has more benefits than disadvantages for youngsters and help them achieve their ideal weight in minimum time. Moreover the endurance level of the young weight trainees is increased considerably and these children become more resistant to shocks and unexpected accidents. They also experience increased height when they are done with their entire weight lifting session.
